I am a mother to four beautiful souls, three girls and a boy.  I am lucky to be married to my best friend and soul mate.  My interest in doulaing began ten years ago when I gave birth to my daughter and I began exploring all of the different options available to me.  At that time, I became interested in the role of the doula but I was unable to pursue that path at that time.  When  I attended my first birth as a support person, my interest in labour support was sparked again but it was not until years later that I was able to begin my journey as a doula. It was after the birth of my second daughter that I decided to pursue my doula calling.  I attended my second birth as a support person and I remember thinking and feeling that this is what I was meant to do!

I took my doula training through DONA International in September of 2009. I was able to fulfill all of the requirements for DONA birth doula certification and  submitted all of my paperwork to the DONA International Certification Board. My certification was approved as of April 2011.  I am now officially a Certified DONA birth doula.  I took additional training for Childbirth Education through CAPPA Canada(Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association of Canada) in August of 2010 as I thought this would complement my background in education  and my doula certification. My certification was approved as of November 2011 and I am now also a Certified CAPPA Childbirth Educator.

As a certified DONA birth doula, I follow a Scope of Practice and Ethics and Guidelines, as set forth by DONA International.  I have fulfilled all certification requirements including attending a training workshop on childbirth and an intensive three day birth doula seminar, taking a breastfeeding education course, writing birth essays, as well as an essay on the integral concepts of labour support, completion of a self assessment test,  attending a minimum of three births where I was positively evaluated by physicians, nurses and mothers, reading various materials from a required reading list, agreeing to adhere to DONA's Scope of Practice and Ethics and Guidelines, etc.  For more information on DONA'S Birth Doula Certification Requirements, you can check out the website www.DONA.org.

As a certified CAPPA chlidbirth educator, I follow a Scope of Practice and  Code of Ethics as set forth by CAPPA Canada.  I have fulfilled all certification requirements including attending the initial training workshop, having prior birth experience, the completion of a take home exam, reading from amandatory reading list,  a 12 hour curriculum development, as well as agreeing to adhere to CAPPA's Code of Conduct, Scope of Practice and Grievance Policy.  For more information on CAPPA's Childbirth Education Certification requirements, you can check out the website www.cappacanada.ca.
